Mirang Wonne was born in South Korea. After finishing her studies at Seoul National University and its Graduate School, she moved to France with a French Government Scholarship for the Arts. There, she received her Diplome and 3eme cycle certificate in Mural Painting from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Art Decoratifs in Paris, as well as her PhD in Esthetics from Universite de Paris 1 (Sorbonne).

 

Mirang Wonne has had her very first installation solo exhibit in Paris at Parc Floral de Vincennes in 1973. She showed her colorful installation work in four large pavilions. As it was a special exhibit for her, she hand printed each of her invite cards with wood cut print on mulberry paper. Wonne continuously participated in major group shows such as “Salon de Mai” at Musee d'Art Modern, “Grands et Jeunes d'aujourd'hui” at Grand Palais, Paris and “Septentrion” exhibit in Musee de Lille.

 

As a full time professional artist in the San Francisco Bay area for more than 40 years, her work has been shown at venues as Triton Museum in Santa Clara, San Francisco Asian Art Museum, De Saisset Museum in Santa Clara, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery, Pacific Heritage Museum of San Francisco, Villa Montalvo of Saratoga, San Francisco Fine Art Fair, San Francisco Art MRKT, LA Art Fair of Los Angeles, Red Dot Art Fair of New York, Sung Gok Museum of Seoul, Korea, Gallery Sun Contemporary of Seoul; and many other San Francisco Bay Area galleries.

Her work is collected and shown in a number of major museums and public spaces including the Seoul City Museum Seoul, Korea, Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, and Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris, Paris, France. In 2015, Stanford Health Care commissioned large metal installation works for the lobbies and four major paintings per floor of the new Stanford Cancer Center in San Jose.
